Patriarchal Shroud
Statement
A suit becomes inherited architecture: formal, hostile, and already coded. Movement turns containment into material.
Patriarchal Shroud begins with a suit and pants as inherited architecture. The form is formal, heavy, and already coded before Jolene enters it. At first, she appears inside it with disdain, as if placed inside a structure built against her.
The sequence turns toward scrutiny. Sleeves pull, shoulders open, seams resist, the body folds inward and widens back out. Movement becomes a way of learning the rules of the shroud without surrendering to them.
The final movement is mastery. The suit still carries its code, but Jolene occupies the structure on her own terms. The project centers active presence: the body inside the aesthetic changes what the aesthetic can mean.
